Powerful note taking skills for content creators
Don’t just attend webinars. Write about them.
People write about their favorite books, top podcasts, or Twitter threads.
Why not virtual events? Event recaps are timely, relevant, and offer ICYMI value for people who missed the event.
If you’re going to spend 60 minutes listening to someone talk about a topic you’re interested in, deploy these powerful note-taking skills to a) get the most out of the time you’re spending and b) advance new knowledge and insights by sharing your takeaways.
Prep your notes
Write down all the questions, and thoughts you have about the webinar topic. Don’t spend more than 5 minutes on this. This is a good warm-up to get your mind primed and focused.
Take notes by hand.
Taking notes by hand are more effective for encoding information than on a keyboard.
Consolidate and Prioritize Key Points
Right after the event, spend 5–10 minutes reviewing your notes and summarizing them into a few bullet points. This will help consolidate new insights and make connections to prior knowledge.
Take a break.
Walk away from your notes. Do something else to occupy your time. This will give your mind time to further process and organize information from the event.
Review and Rewrite
Return to your notes and review them with a fresh perspective. Spend 20 minutes rewriting around your key insights, polishing, and editing.
