How daily writing on LinkedIn can build your audience

This week, I heard Justin Welsh talk about how he has used daily writing on LinkedIn to build an audience and launch a business.

Back in 2019, he was an investor burning out from the rat race. His hunch was that writing every day about SaaS–a biz topic he wanted to monetize– was the best way to build an audience and set himself free. Seven months and 17k followers later he quit his job, started consulting, built some products, and hasn’t looked back.

Here are some key takeaways from the conversation:

  1. Structure can nurture creativity: “I don’t want to have to think when I’m creating.” Daily writing is a job and he treats it like one. He doesn’t sit down and wait for inspiration to come to him. He has built systems, operations, and templates to save him time.
  2. Writing styles that work? Single sentence posts and rapid-fire sentences. “One-liners are so short and easy to consume that it’s easier to click, engage, and participate.”
  3. He categorizes his posts into four categories. Posts that 1.) educate you; 2.) entertain you; 3.) make you think, and 4.) show his audiences that he empathizes with them.
